Gizmo – My Precious Cat

I received this precious kitten after I just released 2 hand raised possums.  My best friend found 3 kittens who were abandoned and decided to bring them home to me.  Their ages were around 3 weeks old and needed around the clock feeding.  Nothing new to me.  The female calico died from inhaling water (had to go thru a large water puddle-all three of them).  So I had 2 handfuls to feed and raise.  After they were 8 weeks old, the kitten I eventually kept was larger than his litter mate so I put his brother up for adoption and kept the larger kitten (Gizmo-he reminded me of gizmo because he would wiggle his ears when fed a bottle).  This kitten eventually grew to be a 20# cat and loved to head but you in the legs (just about buckled them because he hit so hard).  Well, Gizmo was my constant companion for 10 years until I had to put him to sleep because of pancreatic cancer.  That was back in 2010 and I still miss him a lot.  I don’t think there is a day that goes by when I wish he was still with me.

So sorry for your loss. I know the feeling. The photo is mesmerizing….such a beautiful kitty. The impression I get from the photo alone is that he could look right into your soul. I can only imagine what he was like in life…..I have goose bumps!

So sorry for your loss. The same thing happened to me. 17 years ago my daughter found three tiny kittens. Something had happened to the mother. We kept them and a week later one of them died. We kept the other two. They were so tiny we had to bottle feed them until they were old enough to eat on their own. One of them is deaf. This past October, at age 16, Simba died. I miss her terribly. I was her person. She followed me everywhere. She always went to the basement with me when I did the laundry. I had a hard time doing laundry for awhile. I still find myself glancing at the chair where she used to lay expecting to see her.

What a great name you gave this kitty. It’s amazing that our companion animals take a piece of hearts with them when they leave this world AND forever leave their footprints on our hearts at the same time. Earch furbaby is so unique and irreplaceable. Wishing new memories for you when you adopt/rescue again.

So sorry for your loss. Each of the people who have posted have put everything I was feeling into words. I was all teared up when I read about Gizmo (best name!) and I truly feel for you. Then when I read about Simba’s person, we had a very similar story, as my little furbaby who is deaf and has 2 siblings and all 3 of them were found abandoned in the woods is still here among us at age 7 this year and I am forever grateful she came into my life. I can’t imagine her not being at my side.

Oh, I am so sorry! It is always so hard to lose a precious kitty, especially when they’re so young. I lost my kitty to genetic kidney failure years ago when he was just 9. It’s never gets easy, does it? I’m so sorry. Gizmo is absolutely GORGEOUS!

  6. So sorry for your loss. I have raised cats all of my life and I know how much like family they become. He was a beautiful cat and very smart. You were lucky to have one another.

  7. Debra, such a touching story,,, you made me cry… You must have a wonderful heart and it sounds as though you and Gizmo had a beautiful connection. I am so sorry for your loss. Animals can grab a piece of our heart and wrap their little souls around it and they stay there forever. I am a cat lover, and I can’t have my cat with me where I am living right now, but I visit her on the weekends and she still knows I am her Momma and I say a prayer for her every night. She is my Trixie girl. God bless you, Debra,,, the picture of Gizmo is precious…
